  • 1 cup Rolled oats Not quick-cooking or steel-cut.
  • 1 cup Milk or any plant milk Water works too, but milk adds richness.
  • 1 pinch Salt Essential for flavor.
  • 1 splash Vanilla extract Optional but adds magic.
  • Sweetener (brown sugar or honey) Adjust to taste.
  • Toppings (fruit, nut butter, chocolate chips) Customize as you like.

Preparation

  • In a large mug, combine oats, milk, and salt. Stir well with a spoon.
  • Microwave on high for 1 minute.
  • Open the microwave and stir the mixture, then microwave for another minute.
  • If necessary, microwave for an additional 30 seconds if it appears watery.
  • Let it sit for 1 minute to thicken before adding your toppings.
  • Add toppings or enjoy as is.

Notes

Best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. Add milk before reheating and stir well.
